Nature’s miracles are often fleeting, a brief confluence of favorable conditions in the Universe -- and then they’re gone. Such is the case with Oakland’s Doctor Monster, a four-piece noisy punk band hailing from the silicon fiefdom of the Bay Area. Brought together by a craigslist ad during lockdown, the rag tag band of miscreants honed a sound combining the brutal musical precision of The Jesus Lizard with the enthusiasm of rabid chimps on a bender.

Experienced handlers, including the ingenious engineer Phil Becker, were brought in to supervise the quartet’s time in San Francisco’s El Studio where the band recently recorded a six-song EP, the end result of a year of writing and rehearsing during lockdown. The result, Mars Awaits is a caustic collection of pugilistic punk rock warning of environmental havoc, societal collapse, and Elon Musk’s prolific progenitation.
